Oh my! I love the reality of this and both Watson and Holmes seem to be very much IC, one becoming insulted by what is a need to the other, to keep him safe and sound. I'm impressed that Watson did not run after Holmes and for Holmes to reach out, when it appeared to be that their friendship had ended. The way you ended this was masteful, really great fic!
