This is beautifully wrought - excellently written and characterized. Holmes' voice is absolutely perfect here. And I love how well he knows Watson and how he will react at the discovery, and Holmes' impulse to spare him the immediate blow of it speaks volumes about his care for the man. Your descriptions are wonderful, too - they put the reader right in that train car with them. Well done, indeed.
