60 for 60: The Blanched Soldier

This week in 60 for 60, we are writing 60 word ficlets about the Arthur Conan Doyle canon story, The Adventure of the Blanched Soldier. Two men of the Army are the most dedicated companions until they are separated by injury... and a subsequent mysterious disappearance. His friend is determined to find him again, no matter what the cost.

If you've never joined us, we'd love to have you! You can learn more here (including the schedule), but the basics are easy: read the story, then write a 60 word ficlet inspired by it. That's it! Old Ralph told Godfrey about the visitor, but he had to see for himself.
No. It can’t be.
Godfrey crept to the window for a better look.
J-James? Oh, God, it is.
His head fell against the glass at the sight. James, for the first time in years. Strong, brave, beautiful James.
But that was before, Godfrey. That was before.

What does everybody think of the current format, collecting links to everyone's individual pieces? There has been some interest in a master post with the text of all the entries. That sounds good, but I would need to make sure every author is okay with that -- I don't want anyone to be upset about reposting their material.
