This week in 60 for 60, we are writing 60 word ficlets about the Arthur Conan Doyle canon story, The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle. A classic holiday story! Cases come in all shapes and sizes, but few are as unusual as this one, arriving at Holmes' door as a haggard hat and a Christmas goose. Where these odd clues lead amazes even the Great Detective.
Important and good news, everyone! We're getting our own comm for 60 for 60! We're calling it
sherlock60 (now with intro post and profile) and I'm setting it up this week. Next week, we'll post our entries there. I'll try to message everyone when the comm is open and running, and I'll send all necessary links and info. This is my first comm, so please bear with me. Ideas and help would be welcome!
60 for 60: Week 4: The Blue Carbuncle
Mrs. Peterson’s recipe for golden goose had been passed down for six generations. Each ingredient lent a unique character to the dish: thyme for aroma, peppercorns for spice, orange peel for brightness. This particular goose carried with it a special ingredient of its own, however, and although it didn’t add flavor, the meal was made all the richer for it.

Next week on 60 for 60: from The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, The Boscombe Valley Mystery. An open and shut case is anything but when a man is murdered at the edge of the water of Boscombe Pool.

Date: 2011-07-24 09:02 pm (UTC)And thanks. This week I was bone-dry for good inspiration for some reason. At a certain point, I was just happy I got 60 words that have anything to do with the story! :)

Date: 2011-07-25 02:03 am (UTC)I'm trying to think of how best to handle tagging. Seems like we'll need tags for each of the stories (probably the 4 letter notations), which will make for a rather full list. What do you think?

Date: 2011-07-30 12:09 am (UTC)I like the idea of the tags you have - it would be a long list, but it's what people will most likely be wanting to search for, surely?

Date: 2011-07-24 10:40 pm (UTC)I love your story this week. I always wondered what Mrs. Peterson's reaction was to finding the stone, and this is a lovely sideways glimpse of that.

Date: 2011-07-25 01:21 am (UTC)And thanks for the compliment about the story. BLUE is a such a fun case, but I just couldn't find anything in particular to hang my 60 words on, so it's not up to my usual standards. Oh well, they're not all going to be gems, even if the story is about one!
