Well, it's a new month, and time for a new game cooked up by resident genius/lunatic [livejournal.com profile] methylviolet10b. She's taking prompts for the month of September and has invited others to join in the fun too.

Sounded like a fine idea to me. I need to get my butt into gear and get some pieces finished and posted for a change, so let's do this thing. If you have an idea for a prompt, I'd love to hear it. I will definitely write and post at least one piece this month based on a prompt here. Got any good ideas drifting around? I'd be most appreciative for them. Prompt away, if you please!

Oh, and of course, please join us if you like! [livejournal.com profile] methylviolet10b's rules are simple: Make a post titled "Prompts?" and commit to one prompt-inspired fic for the month. And if you can throw a few spare prompts the way of the other players, that would be much appreciated too. So what do you say? Let's have some fun!

Well, you know I wasn't going to resist, right? ;-)

Prompt #1: Poem 479, by Emily Dickinson, either stanza 1 or 3:
She dealt her pretty words like Blades -
How glittering they shone -
And every One unbarred a Nerve
Or wantoned with a Bone -

...To Ache is human - not polite -
The Film upon the eye
Mortality's old Custom -
Just locking up - to Die.

Any which way this inspires you, if at all.

Prompt #2: A four-hour rail delay.

I hope one of these tickles your fancy!

Edited to add: "resident genius/lunatic"? *blushes furiously* Aw, you say the nicest things! :-D

Ohhh, Emily Dickinson. Her poetry is always so elegantly painful, and these two stanzas are no exception. Angsty possibilities abound. And prompt 2 is wide open! There's a lot that can happen in four stranded hours...

(And of course you're the resident genius/lunatic! :) You're always either playing an elaborate writing game or initiating one. You are a busy bee, as ever!)

Well, I have the first part for prompt #2 up! Thank you for your patience. It's called Zoetrope. That rail delay isn't in this part, I'm sorry, but it is coming, I swear. I hope that's okay!

Yay! Another player in the game! I offer the following prompt:

Holmes and Watson go to a production of either the latest Gilbert & Sullivan operetta or a Shakespeare play. Why? That's something I would love to learn!

Ha! Gilbert and Sullivan! Very tempting indeed! Thank you very much for the prompt -- I've got some fun things to consider here...
